Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s airbase at Tatenhill Airfield in Staffordshire will open its hangar doors for the first time to host an Open Day on Sunday 15th July.
The free event will provide a rare opportunity for the public, local communities and supporters of the charity, to have a guided tour of the helicopter, talk to the aircrew, observe demonstrations of life-saving treatment and get behind the scenes of the lifesaving service.
Subject to operations, other helicopters in the charity’s fleet will be flying in, along with other private visiting aircraft.
There will be activities to suit all ages to take part in throughout the day, including the helicopter bouncy castle, helicopter simulator rides, trade stalls, refreshments, and raffle. Representatives from other emergency services including fire, ambulance, police and blood bikes will also be attending, ensuring all the family is kept entertained throughout the day.
Tatenhill is one of three airbases that Midlands Air Ambulance Charity operates from, with the other two being Cosford and Strensham.
Ian Jones, critical care paramedic and supervisor at the Tatenhill airbase, said: “We’re so excited to welcome Midlands Air Ambulance Charity supporters to our very first open day. Being able to open the airbase doors to locals and chat to them is the best way to raise awareness of the charity and show people the incredible lifesaving service that operates from here daily.
“With each air ambulance mission costing £2,500, it’s important that we showcase the work of the charity to all generations. With activities to interest everyone taking place throughout the day, this is a fantastic opportunity to get to know what we do and hopefully raise money to support future operations.”
