Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
Pop legend and star of stage and screen Jason Donovan and highly respected ITN News broadcaster and journalist Nina Hossain, have been confirmed to co-present the Recognition Awards and Charity Ball event to be held on Friday 30th June at the Vox Conferencing Centre, in the Resorts World Complex at the NEC in Birmingham.
To date, the annual Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Recognition Awards and Charity Ball has raised over £500,000 and funded over 200 lifesaving air ambulance missions
Jason Donovan has long been a supporter and admirer of the dedication and lifesaving work of the air ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Commenting on the forthcoming awards he said;
"No matter how old or young you might be, no matter how fit and healthy you are, no one ever thinks they will ever need the services of an air ambulance - hopefully, none of us ever will. But if the unthinkable does happen?
"I spend countless hours on the road up and down the motorways touring across the UK. In the event of a serious accident, it is comforting to know that we have such an incredible rapid lifesaving service available. I'm full of admiration for the brave paramedics and pilots of the air ambulance."
A celebrated career spanning 28 years first saw Jason’s debut 1989 album “Ten Good Reasons” reach 5 x Platinum status and a string of Top 10 hits and sell out tours. A star of stage and screen and having performed on the musical theatre stage across the globe, Jason has also appeared in hit musicals in leading shows from The Rocky Horror Show, to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Sweeney Todd, Festen, Joseph, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds, the Here and Now Tour, The Sound of Music, and Annie Get Your Gun.
Jason also presents an All 80s radio show on Heart every Sunday and has played the celebrity game in I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing.
Jason’s schedule is non-stop. He is currently touring in Million Dollar Quartet and returns to Birmingham in October as part of his ‘Amazing Midlife Crisis’ tour.
Nina Hossain is the highly respected ITN News journalist and broadcaster has long been a supporter of the work of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, previously attending several of the annual Charity Ball and Recognition Award ceremonies. Nina is widely recognised as the face of the News At Ten, ITV Lunchtime News and ITV News London. A highly respected and skilled broadcaster she conducts exclusive interviews with high-profile figures, politicians and celebrities. Commenting on the forthcoming awards she said;
“As a supporter of the incredible lifesaving work of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and having attended previous Charity Ball and Recognition Awards, I was delighted to be asked to co-present the 2017 annual Charity Ball and Recognition Awards with Jason Donovan.
“This amazing event recognises the tireless dedication of the volunteers and fundraisers who each year help raise the £7m that is required to keep the three helicopters operational 365 days per year. The Charity Ball and Recognition Awards also honours the bravery of the pilots, paramedics, doctors and support staff, while reuniting former patients whose lives have been saved by the aircrew.”
Born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, Nina is the daughter of Doctor Tobarek Hossain and Pamela Hossain who was a nurse. Nina studied English Language and Linguistics at Durham University, before gaining a Post-graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston. On graduation, she was chosen for a traineeship at Border Television in Carlisle. During her four years there, she produced, reported and presented across the output.
In 2000 she moved to London to present on The Medical Channel, a business to business satellite service for NHS professionals. A year later she took a post as a launch face of BBC London News, which began with a stint as a reporter/presenter on Newsroom South East. She went on to present BBC London's flagship evening news programme.
Nina is a previous RTS Journalism Awards nominee and in July 2015, she was awarded with an honorary doctorate from the University of Huddersfield and nominated for services to the media at the British Muslim Awards.
Nina has appeared in the film Trauma which starred Colin Firth and also is the newsreader on a fictitious news bulletin on the Duran Duran song the “Man Who Stole The Leopard”. Nina also performs as the female voice of the sat nav on the Duran Duran track “Blame The Machines” This year she ran in the London Virgin Marathon raising money for the charity Whizz Kids.
