Members of Parliament across the Midlands came together at a Parliamentary Reception to demonstrate their support of their local pre-hospital emergency service, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
The event was hosted by longstanding supporter of the charity, Wendy Morton MP for Aldridge-Brownhills, and took place at the House of Commons in October. The occasion provided Members of Parliament, including MPs for Heart of England counties including Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Worcestershire with an insight into their primary air ambulance organisation.
More than 25 MPs from across the Midlands learned about the advanced clinical care, medicines and equipment brought rapidly to scene within just ten minutes, which gives those in critical need the best chance of survival and a good recovery. They also took part in CPR demonstrations, met with two of the charity’s former patients, and found out about the region’s hospital helipad network, which is vital in enabling patients to be swiftly conveyed to the most appropriate hospital for their needs.
Hanna Sebright, chief executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “The event provided an opportunity to highlight our pre-hospital enhanced care service to patients across the Midlands region. We highlighted our charitable status, as the service is funded by donations, and outlined how the service adds value to the NHS by supporting the ambulance services within our operating area.
“We were honoured to welcome so many of our longstanding and supportive MPs as well as introduce ourselves to those newly elected in July’s general election. I would like to thank our MPs for attending and signing our pledge to demonstrate their support of advanced pre-hospital care in their area.
“I would also like to thank our host, Wendy Morton MP, for advocating our organisation, and the air ambulance community as a whole through her role in the All Party Parliamentary Group for Air Ambulances. Her support on the day helped to raise awareness of our cause and the key benefits we bring to communities across the region.”
Wendy Morton, MP for Aldridge & Brownhills, added: “This was an important event for MPs across the charity’s operating patch to understand the unique clinical skillset of the crew and their ability to bring parts of the hospital directly to patients. I am proud to champion the work of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, it is a service we may all need to rely on one day and thanks to their advanced treatment on scene, so many lives are saved and families remain together.”
